Creators have been revealed!

The collection has a total of 64 works posted - so much wonderful art and writing to enjoy!

Recipients, if you have not already done so, please comment on your gift as soon as possible. If there are any issues, please bring them to the mods.

Last Minute Reminder

Folks, we're in the home stretch! The deadline is this Sunday, 8:00PM UTC.

Hopefully everyone is having a great time and putting the finishing touches on their fanworks! (There's already quite a few in the collection!)

If, however, things have gone sideways and you know you will not be able to finish, please let the mods know! There will be no judgement or shaming, just a call for a pinch hitter so your recipient still gets a fanwork and the collection can open on time.

Assignments are out!

Check your inboxes, assignments have been sent. 😄 We hope you like yours and are excited to create for it!

Anyone who has a placeholder Dear Creator letter, please make sure it is finished and unlocked before Thursday. (The first thing most creators do is look at that letter - if you don’t have it done now, get it done ASAP!)

Assignments are due Sunday, 15 October 2023, 8:00 PM UTC

Minimum requirement is 500 words (authors) or a nice sketch on clean, unlined paper (artists).

We know life happens - if it looks like you will for whatever reason be unable to complete your assignment, please default as soon as you are sure and let the mods know. This allows us as much time as possible to arrange a pinch hit. There is no penalty for defaulting before the due date.

Any pinch hits will be posted here as soon as we know about them.

Treats - meaning extra gifts - are always welcome, and anyone can create them, signed up or not. If you see a prompt you love and would like to create something for it, go for it! (Treats are not subject to the minimum requirements and have no deadline.) If you think you might like to treat, you can find all the requests in the Requests Summary, and the collection is here.

Sign-Ups Are Open!

We have our tagset!

Once you have read through the Sign-Ups Info Post, go ahead and sign up. (Even if you've participated in previous rounds, please read the info post - there have been a few changes this round!)

This year the following fandoms require mod approval to offer Any Character:

  • Crossovers*
  • LotR books*
  • Hobbit books
  • Hobbit movies
  • LotR movies
  • Rings of Power
  • LOTRO
  • Adventures of Tom Bombadil
  • Book of Lost Tales
  • Smith of Wootton Major

For the fandoms with an asterisk, meaning there are over 125 character tags in the tagset, we're going to want to hear why you feel you can tackle any assignment that may result. We will almost certainly NOT approve Any Character offers in these fandoms for any first time exchange participants.

Please either comment on here OR email the mods with questions - we are still not reliably getting notifications about asks on Tumblr.

Nominations

Nominations are how we assemble the tagset for the exchange. Whether you’re firmly planning on participating, not sure if you’ll sign up, or just lurking but hoping to see particular elements in fanworks in the collection, you are invited to nominate!

The only requirement to nominate is that you have an AO3 account. (If you do not have an AO3 account and would like to create one so you can participate, let the mods know if you need an invite code.)

Please read the sections on Character and Worldbuilding before nominating to ensure your nominations are accepted!


  • You may nominate up to 20 fandoms, with a maximum of 10 character tags and 10 worldbuilding tags per fandom.

  • When nominating, please copy and paste the fandom names from the list below. We use several fandoms that are not canonical in the AO3 sense, and AO3 is very precise about tags. (Extra spaces and en-dash vs em-dash have been issues in past rounds.)

  • We recommend you check the tagset immediately before nominating to be sure your character or group has not already been nominated – AO3 will not warn you if you are repeating an existing nomination in a slightly different form. We do our best to approve tags quickly, so the tag list should usually be reasonably up to date.
