elwinfortuna: Rainbow Fëanorian star, surrounded by text: "through sorrow to find joy." (Default)
Check your inboxes, you've got an assignment! It is due on Sunday, the 18th of October, at 8:00 BST.

May the stars shine upon your faces!

If you have a placeholder letter, please be sure to finish and unlock it within three days from now to give your creator the most time to complete your gift.

If you need a beta reader, please comment on this post when you are ready to ask for one.

If you find that you will not be able to complete your assignment, please default as soon as you are sure, as this allows us to find someone else to create a gift for your recipient. No penalty is attached to defaulting before the due date.

Time to pick your prompts, rustle up your requests, finesse your fandoms, and ogle your offers!

Head on over to the signup form and figure out which of the over 1200 tags in our tagset tickle your fancy.

You can choose to request and offer fanart and/or fanfiction. You have a minimum of 3 requests and 4 offers and a maximum of 10. You can request fandoms more than once, but you must choose a different set of characters or character groups.

Due to an AO3 bug, the tagset may not fully copy across to the signup form. Please just copy and paste from the tagset itself and it should work.

You may select up to 10 worldbuilding tags; they are optional, for information for your writer/artist about the sort of thing you might like to receive.

You may also choose to fill in the details field, or write a letter, which you can link to on the form. It's generally considered a good idea to give your creator some prompts for what you'd like to see and also some idea of anything you particularly wish not to see. Please be aware that your writer/artist is not required to follow your prompts, but they should avoid giving you anything you've asked not to receive.

Signups close on Sunday, 13 September at 8PM BST (7PM UTC).
grundyscribbling: detail of Finwe and Miriel from Jenny Dolfen's Cuivienen (tolkien - JD Finwe and Miriel)
Could the person who nominated Group: Andvari (LSG) and Thorin (Hobbit) please re-submit the tag making clear if that's Hobbit book or Hobbit movies?

Could the person who nominated a number of characters and groups under "Lord of the Rings - All Media Types" please re-do their nominations, this time submitting the characters or groups under fandoms listed in the rules & guidelines?

Also, we highly recommend that everyone check the tags already nominated before submitting their nominations! (We're checking the nominations regularly, so it's unlikely there are a large number of tags awaiting approval that you can't see.) There have been quite a few duplicates today. You're basically wasting one of your nominations if the character, group, or worldbuilding tag you want to nominate is already in the tag set.

Please carefully read the FAQ before nominating as it has very important instructions on how to nominate.

Once you have done this, please go to the tagset and begin nominating!

Please be aware that this year, due to the inclusion of The Book of Lost Tales as a canon, we are using "The Silmarillion - J. R. R. Tolkien" as a fandom, not "The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-earth." It will try to fill in the canonical tag for you -- don't let it!

Nominations will be open until Sunday, the 30th of August, at 8PM UTC.

Innumerable Stars will return in 2020 for a fifth year of Tolkienish exchange goodness.

The exchange will start and finish a little later this year, and this will give me some time to make minor updates to the rules. The vast majority of participants in this exchange are wonderful, but there's always an unfortunate exception eventually.

I am also looking for someone who can help out with the tag wrangling at nomination stage. If you have run an exchange or dealt with tags before, that would be ideal but it is not required. Please get in touch if you would like to volunteer, by PM on Discord or here, or in a comment below.
