autobotscoutriella: a happy cat in the sunshine (sunshine cat)
It's been a while since I shared any, so who wants some cat pictures?

Last week it was warm enough to open the windows and the cats were Intrigued:
a gray tabby cat and brown tabby cat looking out a window. The gray tabby is leaning over real far

Mirage Needs Her Scritches. This is not optional.
a brown and white tabby cat sleeping on a shark blanket, being petted by a hand

Springs' favorite sleeping spot, where she can stick her leggy out real far:
a gray tabby cat laying on top of a cat tree, with her leg stretched out

Will I manage to get out of this bed and go cook dinner at a reasonable hour? All signs point to no.

(I came home sick from work, took a nap, and I've been playing video games ever since. Being sick does not make me better at Super Mario Galaxy but it does make me slightly more patient because I can blame errors on "don't feel good" and not "bad at game".)

False spring got me :( A 40-degree drop in seven hours is brutal, even for Midwest False Spring, and between that and the thunderstorms winding up the cats, I did not sleep.

I was optimistically hoping to make it through a full day at work anyway, but it's been four hours and I'm already wilting. Come on, brain, just hang on for a couple more hours...

*giant wall of purple headed directly for my town*

Cool, I really wanted to make decisions tonight about tornado sirens. I definitely don't need a good night's sleep. It's fiiiiiiine.

I've been working with my MSV fic on most days this week. It now has c. 5200 words, 1500 words more than last week. Only the ending and a possible epilogue left. I'm going to make it!
Of course, I will do the editing round after finishing this first draft, and probably ask for a beta reader as well, as this is written for a fic exchange.

ghosts

Summary: The name Fey shows up in the unlikeliest of places: Lana Skye's textbook.

Fandom: Ace Attorney
Characters: Mia Fey/Lana Skye
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Notes: Catching up on the crossposts from the Phoenix Wright Kink Meme! This one was for the prompt "Diego/Mia and/or Lana/Mia. For whatever reason, Mia finds herself having to explain to her partner(s) that she's the heir to a family of spirit mediums from a remote mountain village who can channel the souls of the dead into their own bodies."

do you believe in ghosts? )

It is absolutely pouring rain this morning. I did not miss this part of spring.

But after a few weeks of horrific burnout, I'm actually feeling a bit of writing inspiration again, which is nice! I don't know if I'll have anything ready to share this week, but I'm not just staring blankly at word documents trying to make something, anything work. Tea, sleep, and books are going a long way.

(Also cats jumping into my lap every time I try to use the laptop, which isn't exactly helping with the writing but is helping with the burnout. The kittens say no writing, only petting.)

I finally painted the wooden wiggle shark that's been sitting on my coffee table for ~4 months :D

I'm taking part in My Slashy Valentine exchange again this year. This is my fourth year! It's an anonymous fic exchange, and I decided not to ask to whom I'm writing even though that would have been possible (and I still need to before posting it on Ao3). However, after getting the assignment, I actually have a good guess who the recipient will be.
My fic is going to be long! The minimum word count is 1200 words – I'm now at 3700 and the fic is not even close to the ending. It looks like it'll become a TRSB length fic. The pairing is not any I have written for MSV before, which feels actually fresh and inspiring. (I'm not going to tell more about the pairing or the setting to keep it secret...)
The DL for veteran participants is April 4, so I still have plenty of time finishing this story, even with the everyday RL duties.
I think I could post here a weekly progress report as a spur for myself.
autobotscoutriella: Silhouette of a mouse against a pink and blue background (Mariel)
Made blackberry and apple cake and mint tea tonight, for an end-of-week treat. I forgot how nice it is sometimes to feel like a little Redwall mouse after a long tiring day.

(I'd post pictures, but the lighting in my kitchen is terrible, so you'll just have to trust me when I say I burned the cake a little bit but it was still delicious.)

It's too early to get excited about spring...but it's warm enough I didn't need more than a raincoat this morning, and there was fog on the river, and it's going to be nice enough this afternoon that I can open up the apartment windows and air things out a little. Maybe I'll actually cook something nice tonight and sit out on the porch with dinner.

(I've seen enough from the kittens that I do NOT trust them on the porch [balcony, fenced off] without me right there to grab them. I think they can come sit out there with me if they want, though.)

I signed up for [community profile] pinchhitbingo again this year, and I'm only now getting round to posting my table, lmao. I actually did get a bingo last year, so yay for achievement. Crossing my fingers for another for this table.
