As regards next year's exchange, this year was very stressful for me and I do not wish a repeat of that stress next year, so I am looking to hand off at least part, possibly all, of the work involved in running this exchange. I will not be running it alone again, so if there are no volunteers to help, it won't run next year. There is a lot of work that goes into running this exchange every year, from setting up the tagset to ensuring everyone has a gift, and I feel that it was too much for me this time around.
About the stress I endured this year, I feel it's important for all of us to remember that this exchange is designed to be low commitment and low stress, which is why the minimum is only 500 words. No one is guaranteed a perfect fanwork that matches everything they want, just a commitment that we will each try our best. Assumptions of bad faith and bad intentions can cause a great deal of harm; we should try to believe the best of each other and of the work that we are doing.
If the exchange does run next year, I'm going to have to clarify and tighten up some of the rules, including how to define a DNW, and what constitutes a violation of the requirement to portray the characters or relationships requested.
I would appreciate any feedback about how the exchange went for you, positive or negative.
