Nominations Are Open!

Time to go forth and nominate your under-appreciated faves! The tag set awaits you!

Please read the following instructions/FAQs to ensure that your nominations go through quickly. I will be approving them as fast as I can, and this will make it faster and easier.

What 'fandoms' are eligible to nominate characters in?

The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-earth - JRR Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
Smith of Wootton Major - JRR Tolkien
Leaf by Niggle - JRR Tolkien
Farmer Giles of Ham - JRR Tolkien
The Hobbit (Jackson Movies)
Lord of the Rings (Movies)
Shadow of Mordor - Video Game
The Lord of the Rings Online

Please do not nominate anything under All Media Types.

Can we nominate the same character under different 'fandoms' - i.e., can Aragorn be nominated under both 'The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien' and 'Lord of the Rings (Movies)'?

Yes. We want to keep the books and movies separate for this exchange, so if you would be happy to see Aragorn, for instance, in fic or art involving either book canon or movie canon, please nominate him (separately) under both. You would nominate him like this to differentiate:

For book-based fandoms: Aragorn (Tolkien)
For movie-based fandoms: Aragorn (Jackson)
For Shadow of Mordor: Aragorn (SoM)
For Lord of the Rings Online: Aragorn (LOTRO)

AO3 will not let you nominate the same character under two different fandoms if you have not differentiated them.

How do I nominate?

Go to the Tag Set and click on My Nominations. Fill in the first 'fandom' you want from the list above - it will auto-complete after a moment. Add up to 10 characters you want to request and/or offer in that 'fandom'. You may nominate in up to 5 'fandoms'. If you are nominating a character who appears in multiple canons, do so by adding (Tolkien) for a book canon, (Jackson) for a movie canon, (SoM) for Shadow of Mordor, and (LOTRO) for Lord of the Rings Online. See the tag set for examples of ones that have already been added.

Can I nominate relationships or pairings?

No, only characters. When you sign up, you will be able to select what category or categories of fic or art you would like - m/m, f/f, f/m, gen, other, or multi. This should mean you will receive the kind of fic or art you'd prefer to offer or request.

If you have any questions about how this will work, please ask!

Posting with possible tag set issues, as requested. Some of these could well be intentional, but I wanted to bring them up just in case.

The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien

-There are a few characters who could logically be in this book but are disambiguated with (LotR Books), so I just wanted to check that they go here:

Belladonna Took (LoTR Books)
Dís (LotR Books)
Thranduil (LoTR Books)

-Is Durin the Deathless meant to go here? He seems to be wandering.

The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien

-Just to check, are these characters meant to go here?

Alatar (Tolkien) (He's also under Silm, though I could see a case for putting him in either or both.)
Bandobras "the Bullroarer" Took meant to go here?
Durin the Deathless
Elendil's Wife
Pallando (Tolkien)

-Lindórië (Tolkien) is misplaced from the Silm

The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien

-I think these characters belong in LOTR-books?

Araphor (Tolkien)
Eldacar of Gondor

-Ereinion Gil-galad (LoTR Books): It would make sense for him to go in the Silm, but I wanted to check because of the disambiguation.

-Finvain (Tolkien): I thought this was an alternate name for Írimë Lalwen (who is also in the tag set)?

-These characters are under both Silm and LOTR: is that intentional?

Gilmith (Tolkien)
Mithrellas (Tolkien)
Nimrodel (Tolkien)

-Meril: Is this a different person from Meril-i-Turinqi (also in the tag set)? I have a vague recollection that this was a name for Finrod's wife in an earlier version. If a different character from Meril-i-Turinqi is meant, I think it would be less confusing to have some sort of disambiguation on Meril.

-Tar-Elmar: I believe this is a typo for Tal-Elmar.

The Hobbit (Jackson Movies)

-Thorin III Stonehelm (Jackson): Far be it from me to keep anyone from having their obscure favorites in the movieverse, but I can't help wondering a little if they meant to click on Thorin Oakenshield? (Who is not in the movie tag set, surprisingly enough.)
